Replacing Laptop parts and hard drive?

Do computer parts have to be spacific? same size? same operating specs? What should I notice if I want to replace a hard drive? What about if I want to get a external hard drive?

Are all the computer parts different? what should I notice when replacing the monitor, hard drive, cd player, or ram?

As far as replacing the hard drive goes there is one thing you need to watch, the type of hard drive you buy... There are SATA and EIDE hard drives. If you tell me your model of laptop I can see which kind you need... If you want to buy an external hard drive there really isn't much you need to way for because they don't connect the same way internal ones do, external ones connect by USB.... If you are going to replace the monitor you may as well buy a new laptop as replacing the screen is difficult and expensive to do... The CD drive again, not much you need to watch, these are pretty universal for laptops and simply slide into the slot...They are also very cheap to replace... The RAM, you need to go on the manufacture's website and select your model and see how many gigs of RAM your laptop is equipped to handle..
